Kimberly Brubaker Bradley

Award winning American children's author. Born in 1967 in Indiana. She trained as a chemist, however, after taking a course in Children's Literature, she became interested in writing for children., especially historical fiction. She worked for a time as an editor for an equestrian magazine, and some of her novels feature horses.

Her best known novel, The War That Saved My Life, won the Newbery Honor in 2016. This, and it's sequel are set in the Second World War and have some horse content. Ms. Bradley has also written a picture book pony story for younger readers.

1) THE WAR THAT SAVED MY LIFE

SUMMARY: Children's story with a pony element set in World War II. 10 year old Ada has a clubfoot and is kept a virtual prisoner inside the house by her cruel mother. When war breaks out Ada escapes to join her brother Jamie when he is evacuated to the countryside. The pair are taken in by a recluse, who initially is unhappy with the situation, but slowly forms a bond with the shy insecure girl. Ada learns to ride a pony and slowly gains confidence in herself.
The book won the Newbery Honor award in 2016.

2) THE WAR I FINALLY WON

SUMMARY: Continues the story of Ada. After her mother is killed by bombing, Ada has a chance for a new life, but all does not go smoothly.
